PEEC Provides Free Guided Hikes on Black Friday
Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is offering two guided hikes Friday, Nov. 27, to facilitate outdoor enjoyment.
Inspired by REI’s #OptOutside campaign, PEEC recruited two members of the Los Alamos Mountaineers to lead hikes, one easy and one difficult, on local trails for Black Friday. Each hike is limited to 15 participants and advance registration is encouraged.
Ron Morgan will lead a hike on Bayo Bench Trail, which is perfect for those who want an easy, family-friendly hike with beautiful views. This hike will leave the Los Alamos Nature Center at 1 p.m., carpool to the trailhead, and then hike out to an overlook and back. Hikers will cover 3.25 miles total and return by 3 p.m., in time for hot chocolate.
Evan Rose will lead a longer hike on Pueblo Canyon Loop, which covers 7.5 miles and is considered difficult. Participants will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center just before 10 a.m. and return by 3 p.m., in time to enjoy hot chocolate. Hikers should bring lunch to eat on the trail. Pueblo Canyon Loop offers beautiful views of the mesas, mountains, and tent rocks.
Both hikes will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road. These hikes are free to attend, and registration is required.
