Discover the world around you through journaling in a new class from the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).
During the month of July, Terry Foxx and Sue Watts will teach a class on how to slow down, observe, become curious and connect with nature through journaling.
This four-week class will meet 5:30-7 p.m. every Tuesday in July at the Los Alamos Nature Center (starting July 6 and ending July 27). Registration is required at peecnature.org/events.
Participants will learn observation skills, make various kinds of journals and tap into their curiosity by using their senses. Class members will be challenged to dive into a specific journaling technique each week.
The course includes participating in one field trip and a small journaling kit. Attendees will also make several kinds of journals throughout the month. Registration is required and space is limited to 15 participants. Admission is $12 for PEEC members and $15 for non-members. All materials are included in the course fee.
About the Teachers:
Foxx has taught classes over the past 40 years in plant identification, journaling and creativity. She is the co-author of the three volumes of the “Plants of the Jemez Mountains”. Watts began the Gentle Walkers hiking group sponsored by PEEC and has been connecting people with nature for more than 40 years. This experienced team will guide participants through this course.
PEEC was founded in 2000 to serve the community of Los Alamos. It offers people of all ages a way to enrich their lives by strengthening their connections to our canyons, mesas, mountains and skies. PEEC operates the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road, holds regular programs and events and hosts a number of interest groups from birding to hiking to butterfly watching. The Los Alamos Nature Center is currently closed due to COVID-19, but there are many ways to learn about nature and interact with PEEC online. PEEC activities are open to everyone; however, members receive exclusive benefits such as discounts on programs and merchandise. Annual memberships start at $35.
