Head to the Los Alamos Nature Center Tuesday, Nov. 12 for an evening of family fun.
The night will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with a Family Star Party in the planetarium and continue 6-7 p.m. with Family Night.
Both of these programs take place on the second Tuesday of every month and are free thanks to PEEC’s sponsors:
- New Mexico Bank & Trust sponsors Family Star Parties; and
- Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos sponsors Family Nights.
Participants will explore the transit of Mercury at the Family Star Party and share stories about the moon. If time and weather allows, they may head outside for some full moon gazing. PEEC Educator Elizabeth Watts leads Family Star Parties. At Family Night, attendees will learn how to fold geometric shapes from paper and then put those shapes around tiny LED lights so they can be hung up! Mesa Public Library’s Melissa Mackey hosts Family Nights. Parents are required to stay with their children at both programs.
The Los Alamos Nature Center is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evenings, so families can stay after these programs to play and explore the exhibits.

PEEC operates the Los Alamos Nature Center at 2600 Canyon Road, holds regular programs and events, and hosts a number of interest groups from birding to hiking to butterfly watching. PEEC activities are open to everyone; however, members receive exclusive benefits such as discounts on programs and merchandise. Annual memberships start at $35.
