PEEC News:

The community is invited to join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) at 1 p.m. Friday, July 26 for an Art Workshop, “Head in the Clouds” at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.

This engaging cloud-focused art workshop blends the beauty of nature with the art of needle felting. This unique event begins with a session of sky-gazing, where participants will learn about various cloud formations and what makes clouds look the way they do. With this newfound knowledge, they’ll return to the studio to experiment with different cloud shapes using a variety of wools, practicing basic needle felting techniques.

Participants will create a finished felted landscape, incorporating their understanding of clouds into their art. The workshop aims to play with textures and wools to craft felted clouds that reflect the diversity of real-world formations, deepening appreciation for the clouds above and cementing the group’s learning through hands-on experience.

All materials will be provided, ensuring a memorable and educational experience for all participants. Admission is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.

About the Presenter: Ken Nebel, a working artist and art material expert from the high desert of New Mexico, brings a wealth of experience to this workshop. With a BFA in Illustration and Art History, he owns a small frame shop and art supply store, where he shares his passion for art through teaching and community involvement. He will be joined by retired LANL meteorologist Jean Dewart, who will discuss cloud types.
