Join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 for a live-streamed panel discussion about night sky conservation.

This program will focus on the impacts of light pollution on wildlife, local efforts to keep treasured night skies dark and what communities can do to get involved.

Starr Woods of Valles Caldera National Preserve, Scott McFarland of Bandelier National Monument, Aubrey Larsen from the Utah Community Development Office and National Park Service physical scientist and lighting specialist Jeremy White will speak on this panel. 

In addition to Thursday’s talk, PEEC’s astronomy talk of the week is happening at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Did you know that billions of tiny, invisible particles are streaming through you every second? Those are neutrinos, the almost undetectable particles critical to our understanding of the sun, the universe and ourselves.

Astrophysicist Jonah Miller will tell the fascinating story of neutrinos at this talk, which includes a mine located 2 km beneath Sudbury, Ontario; massive black holes; Antarctica; the life of our sun and the death of massive stars!

Be sure to tune in for PEEC’s weekly virtual vinyasa flow yoga class, too. This class is held 10-11 a.m. every Sunday and taught by Christa Tyson who is the visitor services manager at PEEC. She has been teaching yoga since 2003.
