Join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center for two special events this Saturday, July 13 for Los Alamos ScienceFest’s Discovery Day.
PEEC is organizing the Electric Vehicle Show, which happens alongside the other events taking place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ashley Pond Park. Additionally, PEEC is hosting a New Mexico PBS Science Café 2 to 4 p.m. at the Los Alamos Nature Center.
An array of electric powered vehicles of all shapes and sizes will be lined up along Central Avenue for the Electric Vehicle Show. Speak with owners and dealers and learn about how an electric vehicle’s carbon footprint compares to a gas-powered vehicle.This event is made possible by the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities. Models from Tesla, Chevy, Zero, Elby, Kawasaki, Elby bikes and more will be featured at the show. Attendees can also sign up to test drive select vehicles. All vehicle test drives will be arranged by the owner outside of the Discovery Day event.
At the New Mexico PBS Science Café, PEEC will play a segment of the film “NOVA Wonders: What’s the Universe Made Of?” and audience members will hear from a panel of local experts. The majority of the cosmos still remains a mystery to scientists across the world. However, astronomers are convinced that there are two major players in our cosmos: dark matter which is pulling the universe together, and dark energy that pushes the universe apart. Astronomers Galen Gisler and Peter Polko will discuss recent discoveries in astronomy and how they hope to push our understanding of the universe even further.
