County Reopens Survey For Fire Station 4 Site Selection
The Los Alamos County Public Works and Fire departments hosted a public meeting at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 15 at the Fire Department Administration offices.
During the meeting, the project team presented the results of the site selection survey, which closed on Oct. 7, along with collected data on response times, environmental impacts, and a rough cost analysis for the three sites being considered for the replacement of Fire Station 4.
In response to requests from meeting attendees, the project team has reopened the survey, now available until 11:59 p.m., Oct. 30.

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has announced two upcoming office closures that will affect the public. The offices will not be open to visitors or sell passes/permits on these days, please plan accordingly.
Closures include:
- Tuesday, Oct. 22 – The Supervisor’s Office in Santa Fe will be closed all day and will resume business hours Wednesday, Oct. 23; and

LAPD Clarifies Unreasonable Animal Noise Complaints
On June 11, 2024, the Los Alamos County Council adopted updates to Chapter 6 of the County’s Ordinances, which include revisions to Section 6-6, unreasonable animal noise. Persistent barking from dogs falls under this section.
Alongside these changes, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) updated its internal policy to better clarify procedures in response to these noise complaints.

MILAN – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Six along Brasier Asphalt (Contractor) will continue road work of N.M. 4 between San Ysidro and Jemez Pueblo.
Work began on the southern section of the corridor at mile marker 0.0 (San Ysidro) and will continue north to mile marker 6.0 (Jemez Pueblo). This is a pilot car operation as one lane will be closed for 1 mile through the construction zone.

In late May of 2024 Greg Huey (Mud Duck) and Tadz Kostrubala (Tabone) successfully summitted the Rainier stratovolcano via the Disappointment Cleaver (DC) Route. At the Oct. 22 Mountaineers meeting, the two will discuss their DC ascent, fairly standard for Rainier, and their not-so-standard attempt to descend on skis. Los Alamos County has released the results of the 2024 National Community Survey, which was conducted in August. Administered by Polco, the survey gathered residents’ insights into ten key facets of livability in Los Alamos County and compared these findings with 2020 and 2022 results and to national benchmarks from over 500 communities.
The findings highlight both high-performing areas and opportunities for improvement.
