New Mexico Unemployment Rate: 4.3% In October 2024

New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in October, up from 4.2 percent in September and up from 4.0 percent the previous year.
The national unemployment rate in October was 4.1 percent, unchanged from September and up from 3.8 percent in October 2023. Total nonagricultural payroll employment grew by 11,500 jobs, or 1.3 percent, between October 2023 and October 2024.

Roundhouse Revenue Request: State Broadband Office Calls On Legislative Committee For $70 Million To Expand Satellite Service
SANTA FE–This afternoon, the Acting Director of the Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) went before the Legislative Finance Committee to request $70 million to increase satellite connections in the state.
Drew Lovelace testified before state lawmakers that these nonrecurring funds would go toward a proposed initiative called Accelerate Connect NM, which would subsidize the cost of connecting to satellite high-speed internet service for qualifying unserved or underserved households.

High elevation lakes will likely soon freeze over and be hard to access due to snow. Lakes that usually freeze over and offer ice fishing include Eagle Nest, Lake Maloya, Lake Alice, Fenton Lake and sometimes Heron Lake. This usually happens in December.
This time of year it’s always a good idea to call ahead to check on conditions.
Navajo Lake does not freeze over and remains open all winter. The San Juan River below Navajo Dam has excellent winter fishing and a little bit more elbow room during this time of year.
