New Mexico State Police Holding Sobriety Checkpoints And Saturation Patrols In Counties Across State In September

NMSP News:

New Mexico State Police (NMSP) will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of September 2020.

NMSP is bringing awareness to these events in an effort to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising.

These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving.

Investigation Reveals Lightning Sparked Medio Fire

After a thorough investigation at the point of origin, fire investigators have determined that the Medio Fire was caused by a lightning strike Monday Aug. 17.

The Medio Fire has now consumed 2,939 acres off the Rio en Medio Trail on the Española Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) between the Rio Nambe and the Rio en Medio, approximately 2 miles north of the Village of Rio en Medio, 2 miles east/southeast of Nambe Reservoir and 5 miles north/northwest of the Santa Fe Ski Basin.

Traffic Alert: Mobile Office Transport On Diamond Friday

COUNTY News:

Crews from Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Department, working in conjunction with local police officers, will assist in the transport of an over-sized mobile office through Los Alamos 9-10 a.m. Friday.

The transport company will be moving the office from the Los Alamos High School onto Diamond Drive, across Los Alamos Canyon Bridge (Omega Bridge) and down N.M. 501 (East Jemez Road) to N.M. 4.

Y Afterschool Program Gearing Up In Hybrid Manner

The Y’s Afterschool program has taken baby steps to bring back the “fun” for families and children in-step with Los Alamos Public School’s phased reopening plan.

The Y’s Childcare Coordinator Janine Morales said that once hybrid learning begins, the Y will provide afterschool care also in a hybrid manner.

The intersection of Trinity Drive and 15th Street is a flashing-red, full four-way stop intersection.

Earlier this evening and unexpectedly, eastbound Trinity Drive between 15th St. and Knecht Street was closed due to unforeseen circumstances involving the Natural Grocers tie into the County’s water, natural gas and sewer systems on Trinity Drive.

NMDOT worked with the Natural Grocers contractor to resolve the situation. The contractor hopes to get Trinity Drive fully open Thursday morning.

Youth Activity Centers Modified Hours Begin Monday

LAFC News:

Los Alamos Family Council (LAFC) will be modifying the operating hours of the Youth Activity Centers (YAC) to better serve families during this unprecedented time of remote learning during the pandemic.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 31, and until further notice, the YAC will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and noon to 6 p.m. Fridays.
