MARILYN STEVENS 1933 – Nov. 30, 2025

Marilyn Stevens passed away peacefully at her home in Los Alamos on Sunday morning, Nov. 30, surrounded by her loving children and faithful dog.

Marilyn Watkins was born in Minneapolis, MN., in 1933. When she was five, her family moved to a farm outside Carlton, MN (about halfway between Duluth and Lake Wobegone), where she grew up. Many of Marilyn’s family stories and memories were centered there. Marilyn was the youngest of 6 children and grew up during World War II. Her oldest brother, Harold, served in the war, and was killed in Italy in 1943.

Heinrich, Luján Call On Trump Administration To Stop Stalling PFAS Cleanups, Protect Military Families And Nearby Communities In New Mexico

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sens. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) joined 26 Senate Democrats to send a letter demanding that U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Pete Hegseth reverse DoD’s decision to delay the cleanup of per-and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) at military installations in New Mexico and nationwide and to urge the DoD to take action to protect military families and nearby communities by addressing PFAS contamination at the affected sites.

Interfaith Coalition On Homelessness Winter Collection Drive—Help Our Unhoused Neighbors In Española Valley

 ICOH News:

As winter approaches, many in the Española Valley face bitter cold without stable shelter. Rising living costs, reductions in SNAP benefits, and limited access to healthcare make this winter especially difficult.

The Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness (ICOH), a local organization based in Los Alamos, has launched a community-wide winter collection drive to support unhoused and at-risk neighbors. ICOH includes congregations from Española and Los Alamos Counties, and it partners with organizations already serving the Valley.

Altocumulus clouds, known in Spanish as el cielo emborregao, are cloud puffs that resemble sheep’s wool. Old Hispanic lore would read these clouds as a bad omen but, in my life, a life lived mostly in the kitchen, this type of cloud formation reminds me of natillas and that is always a good sign.
