COMMUNITY News:
Los Alamos opens its doors this August for a cultural experience like no other—the Oppenheimer Festival 2025.
Running Aug. 16–31, the festival combines history, science, and civic reflection in the town where the atomic age was born. Through films, live talks, and immersive tours, the event explores peace, legacy, and innovation in a modern context.
Festival highlights include a GPS-guided audio drive from Santa Fe, daily screenings of The Manhattan Series, and a special talk with Charles Oppenheimer. Key events include the screening of *First We Bombed New Mexico*, the live stage performance of *Dr. Strangelove*, and a documentary on John von Neumann, *The Most Brilliant Human Mind*.
For deeper engagement, attendees can purchase passes to Peace Week or Legacy Week ($60), which include evening programs, guest lectures, and theatrical performances. Visitors can also scan QR codes at event locations to earn points, redeem rewards, and contribute to live metrics that help support Los Alamos’ tourism economy.
More than an event, the Oppenheimer Festival is a living museum—produced by the SALA Event Center and shaped by the people of Los Alamos.
