About the Los Alamos Housing Partnership
By STEVE BRUGGER

Los Alamos Housing Partnership, Inc (LAHP) was incorporated in 1994 as a 501©3 non-profit organization that promotes the provision and retention of affordable housing.

LAHP owes its existence to continued community support evidenced by the volunteer service of Board President Karl Hjelvik, Vice President Denise Terrazas, Treasurer Carol A. Clark, Secretary Craig Wehner and Board Members Lesley Harelson, Pearl White and Charles Rennick. I serve as the Executive Director.

Past LAHP presidents include Bob Fuselier, without whose long and distinguished service LAHP would not have survived, Jeannette Barras, Gordon Spingler, the late Lauren Earles, Dan Will and Steve Wells. The contributions made by these individuals and many other community members who served on this Board and who devoted substantial volunteer time and effort has been instrumental to this organization’s success.

For the first 17 years of its existence, LAHP received staff support, office space and financial support from Los Alamos County. For most of those years, Judith Schlosser was the LAHP staff person employed by the County and did an extraordinary job. For the past eight years, LAHP has been self-supporting and separate from the County. The first LAHP part-time staff was Cindy Hollabaugh, who had been a member of the Board of Directors. Cindy did a fantastic job in carrying the organization for years up until the time I was hired in 2015.

My job as Executive Director is to implement Board-approved policies and programs. Currently, LAHP manages a housing rehabilitation program and a down payment assistance program for income qualified households in Los Alamos. LAHP also purchases, renovates and resells affordable homes and develops new homes. Past projects include the Mesa del Norte apartment project on North Mesa and the Pinon Trails subdivision in White Rock.

I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, received a BS in Economics and Masters in City Planning from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have been married to my wife, Monica for 31 years and have two daughters – Scarlett and Yadira. I learned to practice real estate as a consultant with several small firms in Santa Fe, with Robert Charles Lesser & Co Real Estate Advisors in Santa Fe and Newport Beach, CA, and with John Rahenkamp Consultants in Philadelphia, PA, prior to becoming the first Executive Director of Tierra Contenta Corporation, a master developer of a 1,000 acre mixed income, mixed use development in southwest Santa Fe. After working in several affordable housing positions at Los Alamos County, Homewise in Santa Fe, and Santa Fe County, I was hired by LAHP to continue its fine work in affordable housing.
