On the job in Los Alamos is Self Help Inc. Executive Director Maura Taylor with her dog Sam. In 2020, the non-profit organization provided direct financial aid to more than 480 households, had 4,368 interactions with 1,072 callers and gave some 2,200 referrals to local agencies/organizations. Self Help volunteers put in some 1,100 hours talking to people in need by phone and worked with dozens of agencies throughout northern New Mexico via referrals and collaborative projects—from other nonprofits, to government entities, to groups of volunteers.
