About Los Alamos Lock and Key
Los Alamos Lock and Key was formed in 1945 when the Zia Company performed the day to day maintenance on the properties in Los Alamos.
In the 1960s, properties in Los Alamos first became available for sale to individual homeowners. Marty Warren owned and operated Los Alamos Lock and Key after the Zia company transition until 1984 when the company moved from its former location at 12478 Central Ave. to its current location at 4051 Sycamore St.
John McHale purchased the business from Warren and co-owns the third generation family business with Herman Manzanares III, his managing partner.
The early days of locks in Los Alamos included entry function (exterior doors), privacy function (bedroom/bathroom), passage function (closet), storeroom function (water heater and furnace room doors) and the E series handleset (front exterior doors).
Modern locks include the same basic functions with the discontinued E series being the exception. Although Los Alamos Lock and Key still sells and services the discontinued handleset and is one of the last locksmiths in the country to do so on a regular basis.
Big box stores sell hardware today as well, the major differences are that big box store hardware is often a lower quality product than those available to a security professional. Big box stores also tend to sell discontinued models of hardware manufacturers tend to dump quickly, often leaving homeowners with limited repairs options.
Los Alamos Lock and Key offers standard, reasonably priced hardware with most brands used in Los Alamos being stock items. They also offer heavy duty residential hardware by Emtek and numerous commercial hardware options. Locks are available in both mechanical and electronic varieties.
In addition to traditional keys and door hardware, Los Alamos Lock and Key offers the latest in automotive technology. They sell and service new electronic keys and FOBs, frequently at half the price of dealerships.
Los Alamos Lock and Key has one of the largest key selections in the state of New Mexico, with more than 170,000 blanks available, so no matter what type of key someone is looking for, they probably have it in their shop.
Los Alamos Lock and Key offers lock service on antique furniture, automotive lock repairs as well as safe sales and service. They carry a wide variety of padlocks including Bluetooth, combination and keyed locking solutions for residential commercial and custom locking applications.
Los Alamos Lock and Key is a small business that provides big service.
Editor’s note: Local small businesses need the support of the community now more than ever!
