WILLIAM JAMES ‘BILL’ MYERS Dec. 23, 1925 – Aug. 27, 2021
Bill Myers was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Mills, Harding County, New Mexico. He began his life on a farm and enjoyed the friends and life of a small community during the depression years. He was always busy, mainly trying to make things work, whether it was a bicycle, or something he built.
He attended elementary school in Mills, and got his high school education in Springer, NM. While in Springer he boarded with Dr. Masten who made house calls all over northeastern New Mexico and he was the Doctor’s official driver.
After graduation from high school, Bill worked for a car dealership until he joined the Army and was with the 82nd Reconnaissance Battalion, serving 13 months in Korea. He was a member of the American Legion in Roy, New Mexico.
When he returned home, Bill married the love of his life, Helen Clark. They were married for 64 years and lived most of that time in White Rock, NM, where he worked for the Mountain Bell phone company.
He retired from Mountain Bell after 30 years of service. Also, during that time, he and Helen volunteered with Search and Rescue. Bill went out in the field while Helen manned the radio. They enjoyed the mountains, loved fishing, 4-wheeling, camping out with family and friends and competing in sports car rallies. They never wanted to leave their home in White Rock and felt fortunate to have had such good friends and neighbors. Bill was a great mechanic and liked to do carpentry, which he learned to do while working with his dad. He could fix just about anything.
Bill is now joining his beloved wife Helen, sisters Ruth Myers Hill, formerly of Albuquerque, NM and Mary Myers Boyd, formerly of Bloomfield, NM. He has one surviving sister, Martha Myers Clavel, of Pierre, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
The family of Bill Myers would like to thank the staff of Egis Complete Care and Los Alamos Visiting Nurses for the professional and compassionate care that they provided to Bill.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at the DeVargas Funeral Home in Española with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
