SUMMERS HUGH COX May 26, 1927 – June 16, 2016
Summers Hugh Cox was born May, 26, 1927 in Gasaway, W. Va., to T. Loring and Araminta B. Cox, the eighth of 10 children. He died June, 16, 2016 in Los Alamos surrounded by his loving family.
He served in US Army 1945-47, and then earned a BA in Biology at West Virginia University in 1951. Summers was married Dec. 27, 1952 to Joanne L. Weber and was her loving and devoted husband for 63 years.
Summers is survived by Joanne and their four children: Robert A. Cox (Karen) of Brighton, Colo.; Ellen L. Yoder (Terry) of Granite Bay, Calif.; Catherine Cox of Las Cruces, NM; John Cox of Marietta, Ga.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He also is survived by his brother Loring Cox of Los Alamos and his sister Jelia Witschi (Ernest) of Hudson, Fla.
Summers worked at LANL 1951-1987 plus five years after retirement. He worked 10 years in reactor technology and 26 years at Health Research Laboratory. He was involved with the human genome project. He served as LA County Clerk 1978-82. He enjoyed family, bowling, gardening and trail building.
Memorial Service to be held at 11 a.m., July 11, 2016 at the White Rock Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WRBC.
