SHELIA MARIE BARKS Nov. 5, 1967 – Nov. 1, 2015
Shelia Marie Barks, 47, of Los Alamos, NM passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015 at her home after a valiant battle with pulmonary fibrosis. She was surrounded by her family that loved and cared for her.
She was born November 5, 1967, in Cape Girardeau, MO, daughter of Junior and Laura Craft. She and Steven Barks were married June 2, 1994 in Oahu, Hawaii.
Shelia attended Jackson High School in Jackson, Missouri, graduating in 1986. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1990 with a degree in Business Administration.
Shelia moved her family to New Mexico in August 2001. She loved working with children, which she did in various roles at White Rock Baptist Church. Shelia very much enjoyed her years of employment at Hartway and Breshears Accounting Firm in Los Alamos. It was a pleasure for her to work with such good and caring people.
Loving survivors include her husband of 21 years; three children, Thomas, Trisha and Travis, two brothers, Dwight (Cathy) Craft and Fred (Julia) Craft both of Jackson, a sister, Pam Henderson of Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.
The joy of Shelia’s life was her children. She was intimately involved in every aspect of their lives and in every interest that they had. She spent countless hours watching them play tennis, perform in the marching band, sing in the choir, and play baseball.
She was always available to help with homework and to be a good Christian example. Her legacy and values will live on in each of them. She was the world’s best mom.
Shelia was preceded in death by her parents. Per her wishes, she was laid to rest next to them in a small country church cemetery in the rolling hills of Southeast Missouri. Her friend and pastor Chuck McCullough of White Rock Baptist Church and Deacon Darrik Stafford accompanied the family back to Missouri for the funeral services.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Church and the Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service for the care and comfort they provided to Shelia and the family during the past several months. The outpouring of support from the community has been truly amazing, and is very much appreciated.
A memorial service for Shelia will be held at 11am on Saturday December 5th at White Rock Baptist Church.
