SHARON LEA WEIR HURDLE Oct. 4, 1946 – Dec. 23, 2024

Sharon Lea Weir Hurdle, age 78, Tupelo, MS, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Dec. 23, 2024. She died at home following a battle with stage 4 colon cancer that had spread throughout her body.

Sharon was born Oct. 4, 1946 in Denver, Colorado, to Donald and Helen Weir then spent her formative years in Wichita Falls, TX where her father was in the Air Force at Sheppard AFB. She was the oldest of four.

After graduating from Hirschi High School in 1964, she was married in 1965 and had two daughters, Kimberly and Sheri, then eventually moved to Los Alamos, NM. After the end of her marriage in 1978, her inner strength and faith helped her to raise her daughters and she was remarried in 1982 to Robert C. Hurdle (Bob) whom she met in the Single Adult Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church Los Alamos. For the next almost 43 years until her death, they shared their life together. She always understood his sense of humor and he made her laugh.

Sharon’s working career was mostly spent at Los Alamos National Laboratory where she worked as administrative support with her outstanding performance recognized frequently over the years.

Sharon was known throughout her life for her sweet, caring and giving spirit.

During the years in Los Alamos, Sharon was an active member of the Los Alamos Civilian Club, where she served in all of the various officer positions and was the Club’s lead in organizing community wide blood drives for many years, but her real love was preparing and serving meals for Wednesday night meals as a member of the Los Alamos First Baptist Church which would continue at Belden Baptist Church when they moved to Tupelo, MS in 2007.

Sharon loved her Church Family, including the members of her Sunday School classes, all of those who helped in the kitchen, and later her disciple group.

Sharon was a servant leader in the area of Church fellowship, leading efforts in the kitchen to prepare meals as well as serving on and leading the Hospitality Committee for many years. This was her calling in serving the Lord. For many years, she also volunteered at the St. Luke Food Pantry interacting with those in need.

Her greatest joy though was her family. She adored and was beloved by her two daughters, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her eyes would light up when she got to hold each of them for the first time. She treasured spending time with her loving husband. Sharon was the best big sister and especially loved any time she could spend with her siblings. The love that she had for all was so obvious.

Sharon is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Bob Hurdle of Tupelo, MS; daughter Kimberly Christensen and her husband Matt of Portales, NM; daughter Sheri Geldert and her spouse Jason of Carlsbad, CA; 5 grandchildren: Jessica Boles and her spouse Jared, Sarah Visser and her spouse Jon, Brionna Geldert, Kyle Geldert, and Emily Christensen; 6 great-grandchildren: Kennedy Bliss, Kate Boles, Everett Boles, Everley Boles, Talan Visser and Nolan Visser.

She is also survived by her sister, Donna Rositani and her spouse Frank; brother, Jim Weir and his spouse Rosie; half-brother, Robbie Weir; sister-in-law, Carole Hurdle and brother-in-law, Johnny Hurdle and his spouse Johnnie, along with all of their families.

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Engstrom Weir; her father, Donald Weir; and her brother, Kenneth Weir.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025 at Belden Baptist Church with Dr. Shane McGivney officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday only at the church. Sharon’s ashes will be interned in the Oxford Memorial Cemetery Columbarium, Oxford MS.
