SANDRA KAY FLETCHER May 20, 1952 – July 13, 2021

Sandra Kay Fletcher died July 13, 2021, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe after a long illness.

She was born May 20, 1952 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Henry A. “Hank” and Myrtle Heerssen “Kitty” Nowotnik. 

In July of 1981, she and Michael A. Fletcher were married at their home in White Rock, New Mexico, where they resided throughout the forty years of their marriage.

While juggling work and family, she was able to earn her BA in Business Administration from the College of Santa Fe and continued her lifelong love of learning by taking online courses at UNM.

Kay was a treasure to the community. She was president of the Los Alamos Ski Club where she started the annual tradition of ULLR fest. She was also the president of the White Rock Little League and Homeowner’s Association and volunteered her time at Bandelier and PEEC. She spent over 30 years working in various roles for the Los Alamos National Laboratory. 

Kay is survived by her husband, Michael, of Los Alamos, her mother, Kitty, of Houston, her two sons, Ernest A. “Rocky” (Sarah) Fletcher, of Truckee, CA, and Luke B. (Lindsay) Fletcher of San Ramon, CA, and four grandchildren, Evan, Bennett, Jonas, and Madelyn Fletcher.

Kay was predeceased by her father, Henry Nowotnik, in 2006, and her brother, Dennis, in 1967.
