OBITUARY: Paul Terp Oct. 1, 2013

PAUL TERP Oct. 1, 2013

Paul Terp, a resident of Los Alamos, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. Paul was preceded in death by his mom and dad, Eunice Madeline (Vanderleest) and Leslie Iver Terp, and his brother Ronald Terp. He leaves behind his wife, Susan (Duffy) and five terrific kids; Krissy Jonas, Stacy Jean Brittelle (Micah), Jacqueline Marie Love (Alastair), Katlyn Rose and Ronald James. He also leaves behind six grand-children that he adored; Haiden and Ella Brittelle; Ethan and Bryce Love; Gryffin and Phoenix Jonas.

He has left behind a void in his grieving family and friends that will never be filled. He leaves behind an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his immediate family is simply devastated. Paul was a loving, dedicated dad and husband. He was gregarious, enjoyed people, and loved to talk. He told entertaining stories and had the ability to immediately connect with just about anyone he conversed with. Anyone who knew Paul knew that his first love (after family) was baseball/softball! He took great pride in volunteering with White Rock Little League, and his love of the game was very evident in the way he coached the boys. He played and coached baseball and softball for 50 years, and he passed that love of the sports on to his kids.

He was born in Wisconsin and raised in Wisconsin and California. He had a distinguished career marked by hard work and commitment. He attributed his business savvy to his father.  He served honorably in the US Navy and took great pride in his ability – to this day – to communicate through semaphore; the specialized training he mastered and later taught in the service. With just a GED, he worked his way into management and supervisory positions as a Radiological Controls Technician. From there he expanded his expertise into D&D, Safety, Project Management, and earned his bachelor’s degree at the young age of 40. He was a very successful, hard-working business man, and he took great pride in working his way up to prominent leadership positions in several major companies.

A memorial service was held Oct. 11, 2013 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family has established the Paul Terp Memorial Fund at Los Alamos National Bank to assist the family with funeral costs. The family of Paul Terp has entrusted their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
