PATRICIA E. GODWIN Jan. 10, 1939 – July 7, 2020

Patricia E. Godwin, formerly of Los Alamos, New Mexico died July 7, 2020 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.

She was born January 10, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky to Dr. Ralph Zwickel and Mae (Stanfield) Zwickel.

She grew up in Newburgh, Indiana and then graduated from Depauw University with a BS in nursing. She began her married life in Champagne-Urbana, Illinois where she worked in Carle Clinic and then as a public health nurse.

Her son, Alan, was born there in 1963. She then embraced German culture in Pinneberg, Germany for several years. Returning to the US to Los Alamos, New Mexico where she lived until 2007 when she moved to Fort Collins, CO.

In Los Alamos her daughter, Susan, was born in 1970. She started the Living Room Playschool with friends, was active in Girl Scouts and then returned to nursing as a school nurse.

In Fort Collins she greatly enjoyed following the growth and education of her grandchildren from their elementary through high school years.

She thrived in observing nature and teaching about everything from butterflies to hummingbirds and wildflowers. Caring for children, both her own and those she took on as her own, as a camp nurse and a school nurse, made her happy.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert P. Godwin, and her children Alan R. Godwin and Dr. Susan K. Klingner, her grandchildren Zachary T. and Molly A. Klingner, and her sister Barbara S. Sanders and brother James E. Zwickel.
