NANCY SCOTT FITZGIBBON May 10, 1921 – March 10, 2015

Nancy Scott Fitzgibbon passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015. Born in El Paso, Texas to Robert Churchill and Ellen Grogan Scott on May 10, 1921. She attended the Texas School of Mines and Metallurgy (UTEP) in El Paso, Texas and received her bachelor’s degree in 1943.

Nancy married Francis Joseph Fitzgibbon of Syracuse, NY in 1946 and moved to Los Alamos, NM where Fitz worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory and Nancy began her long career as an educator with the Los Alamos Public Schools. She was a dedicated teacher who taught hundreds of students at both Pueblo Junior High School and Los Alamos High School. Nancy served multiple terms on the board of directors for the Los Alamos Schools Credit Union and was an active member in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church community.

Nancy’s husband Fitz, brother Robert Scott, grandson Timothy Fitzgibbon, and son-in-law, Michael Trujillo preceded her in death.

Nancy is survived by her seven children, Francis Joseph Fitzgibbon, Jr. and his wife Sally of Los Alamos, NM; Christopher Fitzgibbon of Los Alamos, NM; Mary Ellen Laub and her husband Rick of San Clemente, CA; Kathleen Fitzgibbon of Los Alamos, NM; Teresa Agnes Fitzgibbon and her husband Harrison H. Schmitt of Albuquerque, NM; Georgann Scott Fitzgibbon of Las Cruces, NM; and James Walter Fitzgibbon and his wife Eva of Los Alamos, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jimmy Caruthers, George Scott Fitzgibbon, Robert Michael Trujillo, Brian Joseph Trujillo, and Victoria Melissa Fitzgibbon; and great grandchildren Alaisdair and Jaimeson Fitzgibbon.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Fitzgibbon, Christopher Fitzgibbon, James Fitzgibbon, Robert Trujillo, Brian Trujillo and Scott Fitzgibbon.

Honorary pallbearers are Al Zeltmann, Jim Ledbetter, Rick Laub, Bobby Scott and Harrison Schmitt.

A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at 7:00 pm at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3700 Canyon Road, Los Alamos, NM. Internment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on March 18, 2015, at 1:30 pm.
