MARTHA JEAN FERRELL Sept. 2, 1935 Dec. 29, 2014

Martha Jean Ferrell, 79, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Four Season’s Specialty Care Unit at Aspen Ridge Retirement Community in Los Alamos, NM. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Jean died peacefully in her sleep.

She is survived by her son, William and wife Barbara Ferrell of Los Alamos; one sister, JoAnna Richardson of Boulder, Colorado; and one brother Harold and wife Esther of Hays, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert B. Ferrell, her parents Lucille and John Perrett, and brother-in-law Steve Richardson.

Born in Bogalusa, Louisiana, September 2, 1935, Jean attended Bogalusa City High School and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College in Hammond, Louisiana with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. She married Robert Ferrell and moved to Los Alamos in the early 60s. She was an elementary school teacher throughout the Los Alamos School District for over 30 years and was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. After her retirement, she stayed in Los Alamos, caring for her mother who moved from Louisiana and for her dear friend Neil Davis. Jean absolutely loved children and teaching.

Many sincere thanks to the Amber Care Hospice and especially to the staff of the Four Season’s Unit at Aspen Ridge, for the care, kindness, support and love that was shown to Jean during her illness. It was comforting to know she was well taken care of.

Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to The Alzheimer Association at alz.org. A memorial service will be held at later date.
