Please join with us in mourning the passing of Marleen Stewart. We rejoice that she has finished the course, kept the faith, and is looking forward to a crown of righteousness from her Lord. The story of Marleen’s life revolves around her faith in Jesus Christ and her determination to worship and follow Him.
Marleen was born on April 30, 1940 in Las Cruces, NM to James and Fay Shumaker. Her siblings include Pauleen, Richard, Donald, and Earl. James gave his life in World War II. Fay later married George Pulis, and they joyfully raised the children together. They taught Marleen to love and revere God, and to respect God’s Word. At the age of 12 Marleen was baptized into Christ. She worked with the church that meets at 800 N. Miranda Street in Las Cruces, NM.
On June 2, 1959 she married her sweetheart, Walter Stewart. They were blessed with three children: Vicki (who is married to David McKay), David (who is married to Constance Stewart), and Sandy (who is married to Dudley Santana). Marleen raised her children to love and revere God also. She frequently taught Bible classes to children, was faithful to attend all assemblies of the congregation, and was devoted to hospitality, diligent in service, constant in prayer and reading of the Bible. Marleen was a member of congregations in Las Cruces, NM; Los Angeles, CA; Los Alamos, NM; Santa Fe, NM; Milwaukee, WI; and Madison, WI. She was involved in helping to establish the churches in Santa Fe and Madison.
Marleen is survived by her husband of 62 years, all her siblings, and her children. She has nine grandchildren: Stephanie, Aaron, Gavin, Angela, Matthew, Jennifer, Sean, Joseph, and Johnathan. Her seven great-grandchildren are Gage, Elijah, Haley, Rowen, Lydiann, Rylee and Avery.
Marleen now waits to hear her loving Savior say to her: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Master.”
