MARGARET “MAGGI” MANTHEI Oct. 17, 1927 – Oct. 14, 2015

Margaret “Maggi” Manthei, a long time resident of Los Alamos, New Mexico, passed away on October 14, 2015. She was 87 years old and living near her son, Lee Manthei, in Leesburg, Virginia. She succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s. 

Maggi is survived by her sister, Shirley Sutherland, and her Son Lee and his family. 

Maggi was born in Des Moines, Iowa, October 17, 1927. She graduated from Drake University and moved to Los Alamos in 1956 where she worked in the Laboratory as a group secretary. 

She was married to Allen Manthei for 52 years until his death in 2010, after which she moved to Virginia to be near her son Lee. Maggi and Al had two sons, Karl and Lee, who both grew up in Los Alamos.

Maggi had a passion for travel and was fortunate enough to have traveled across the US and Europe extensively. She was an avid swimmer and bicyclist and enjoyed many bike trips abroad with her husband and family. Maggi was also active in the Los Alamos arts community, enjoying knitting, stitching, and quilting.

She was loved and will be missed. No memorial service is planned at this time.
