MABEL CLARA NELSON YOUNG Jan. 29, 1916 Jan. 29, 2015

Mabel Clara Nelson Young, born January 29, 1916 in Lander, Wyoming and passed away at home in La Madera, NM on her 99th birthday, January 29, 2015, surrounded by her family.

Mabel spent most of her childhood in the Bay Area of California. She started playing piano with a dance band in high school, and continued to make a living this way into her twenties. In 1938 she married Irvin Henneker. Two years later their only child, Carol was born. Carol was the light of her life. Sadly, she was widowed when Carol was just six. They left their home in St Louis, Missouri, to return to Lander, Wyoming.

While in Lander she met, and in 1948, married Byron Young. They moved to Kansas City, Missouri, living there until 1960 when they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Mabel volunteered for many years at the gift shop in St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. After her husband died, she sold her home, and in 1992, moved to live near her daughter and family in La Madera. She enjoyed traveling and taking cruises, as well as spending time with her family. Mabel was an accomplished musician (organ and piano), seamstress, and cook. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed decorating her house and celebrating with her family.

She was a wonderful person with a great sense of humor, loving heart and warm embrace, and an unmatchable lust for life. She will be missed by everyone who had the gift of knowing her.

Mrs. Young is survived by her daughter, Carol Hite of La Madera; grandchildren: Johnna Montoya (Joel) of White Rock; Paul Hite of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; David Hite (Terra) of Los Alamos; Peter Hite (Liza) of La Madera; great-grandchildren: Jonathan Montoya (Elizabeth) of Española; Megan Montoya (Mark Martinez) of Los Alamos; Francisco Montoya, Shaune Hite, Dylan Hite, Jane Hite, William Hite, and Wesley Hite; great-great-grandchildren, Joel Montoya and Jaiden Martinez and many other loving relatives and friends.
