LOUIS ‘LOUIE’ MORRISON April 19, 1940 – May 5, 2024

Louis “Louie” Morrison passed away peacefully at home on Sunday May 5, 2024.  

Louie was born in Dobbs Ferry, New York on April 19, 1940, to Mary (Tuohy) and Chester Morrison. He grew up on the Hudson River in the Village of Irvington, NY where he graduated from Irvington High School in 1957 and Westchester Community College in White Plains, NY in 1960, with an AAS in mechanical technology.

In 1961 he joined the US Navy and after completing initial submarine school courses, was assigned to the USS TORSK for his first duties. During his Navy tenure, Louie tested into the US Nuclear Power School where upon completion, he was assigned to the USS Lafayette, a Fleet Ballistic Missile Nuclear Submarine home ported in Charleston, SC with Rota Spain as its operational base.  Aboard the Lafayette he made seven Deterrent Patrols as a member of M Division Blue Crew, Engineering Section working as a mechanical operator in the engine room.

After completing six years of military service, he interviewed with and was hired by Los Alamos National Laboratory where he worked for 33 years. During his early days in Los Alamos, he took night courses from UNM offered by the lab while working as an operator and was able to complete his BSME degree which allowed him to become a staff member at the lab. Throughout his time at LANL, he worked at Omega West Research Reactor as an operator, the Van de Graaff accelerator, LAMPF and finally DARHT. Throughout his tenure, he got to meet and work with and for some outstanding people. Louie retired in 2000 on the anniversary of his exact start day.   

Louie was proceeded in death by his sisters Mary Frances Morrison and Katherine Brosnan.

He is survived by his children Ann (Brian) Hansen of Boulder, CO, Shaun (Melanie) Morrison of San Francisco, CA, and Lea Morrison of Albuquerque, NM.

Louie was the loving grandfather of Matthew, Lisa, Jeremy, Owen and Esther. He was also uncle to Mike, Tom, Bill and Rich.

A Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos, NM on Saturday June 1, 2024 with a rosary at 2PM and Mass at 2:30PM:

A reception will follow at the Parish Hall across the parking lot from the church. A private service for interment will be held at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM at a later date.
