LORNA HAMILTON COOPER March 3, 1936–June 9, 2013

Lorna Hamilton Cooper, a resident of Los Alamos for nearly 40 years, passed away Sunday June 9, 2013.

She was born March 3, 1936. She was the beloved child of Philip and Georgia Goss, and mother of Preston Cooper, Erika Cooper Gorman, and Linsday Cooper. She loved her grandchildren Ethan and Kelsey Prueitt, Dane Van Buren, Layn Biddle, Rigel and Andromeda Cooper, and Kyle and Grace Sackman. She raised Layn for several years and missed him every day after he moved to Alaska.

Lorna was a talented painter and photographer until her disease robbed her of the use of her hands. However, she channeled her creativity into making flower arrangements, writing poetry, and decorating. She volunteered at the Friends Of Mesa Public Library Bookstore for many years and took great pleasure in organizing the books. She sang in the choir at the United Church for 20 years and loved having a weekly girl’s night out with her friends after practice. She also had a great affinity for maps, bird watching, and genealogy. She was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed reading about the history of the Western US.

Lorna fought multifocal motor neuropathy for over 30 years, and survived breast and colon cancer. She finally succumbed to leukemia, but hung in there much longer than anticipated because she was a courageous fighter. She would have loved to have donations made to The Friends of Mesa Public Library Bookstore, in lieu of flowers. She will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at the United Church later this summer.
