LEE FRANCIS BROWN Feb. 23, 1929 – June 30, 2021

Dr. Lee Francis Brown, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, engineer, mathematician, researcher, teacher, skier, lover of Shakespeare, musician, climber, mountaineer, sailor, veteran, photographer, mechanic, poet, essayist, Notre Dame fan, world traveler, and reader, passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Lee was born Saturday, February 23, 1929 in Elmhurst, Illinois, to Walter and Hazel (Dutton) Brown, the middle of three brothers. He studied chemical engineering, earning a Bachelor’s from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Delaware.

He served in the Army Chemical Corps and taught chemical engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He finished his career working as a research scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

He spent his retirement years writing, traveling, and following his grandchildren’s accomplishments. 

Lee is survived by his wife Monica (Walsh) of nearly 54 years; his three children, Eric, Cecilia, and Tim; and his seven grandchildren, Ben, Evelyne, Audrey, Liam, David, Silas, and Micah.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lee’s memory to Meals on Wheels or Roadrunner Food Bank in Albuquerque.
