Kimra Lyn Ray passed away on August 12, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones as she made her way onto the next adventure.
“Though she be but little, she is fierce.” –William Shakespeare
Never was there a more accurate way to describe our mother. She was a little thing, but man she sure was a firecracker. If she was mad about something or if there was an injustice, she’d let you know it. She was kind and empathetic. She loved people and animals and always stood up for the underdog.
She was a talented artist who loved to paint and she probably crocheted a million stitches over the years making the most beautiful afghans and baby blankets. The epitome of a social butterfly, her superpower was her ability to connect with people. Mom NEVER met a stranger. Her beautiful smile made people feel at ease.
To her grandbabies she was “Kim Nana”. She was an early bird, always up at the crack of dawn. She would sit out on her porch in the early morning with a cup of coffee listening to the birds and her wind chimes while she talked to her plants.
She is survived by her children: Hether Nixon of Christoval, Texas; Will Nixon and his wife Cindy of Mansfield, Texas; and Austin Nixon of Belen, New Mexico. She also leaves behind her cherished grandbabies, Natalie, Aden, Owen, and Liam. Kim is further survived by her brothers, Dan and David Ray, as well as her nieces, Tyann and Peyton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Charla Ray; her maternal grandparents, Charlie and Hettie Bryan; and her paternal grandparents, William and Ellen Ray.
She was born just a little wild. A free spirit if ever there was one. She used her heart as her compass and was a rule breaker who did things her own way regardless of what anyone thought. She wasn’t perfect and she wasn’t always easy. We faced some tough challenges with her but she was ours. God created her exactly as she was meant to be, and for that we remain forever grateful.
Fly high, Mom. We’ll see you on the other side.
