KAREN ROWAN Dec. 13, 1949 – May 31, 2021
Karen Rowan passed away on May 31, 2021, after a 5-year battle with lung cancer.
Karen was born in Abilene, Texas on December 13, 1949. Her family moved to Houston, where, at the age of 12, completely on her own, she made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized.
Karen graduated in 1971 with a degree in Art History from the University of Texas
at Austin, where she also met and married Randy Rowan, her husband of 50 years. Karen and Randy moved to Los Alamos in April 1976.
Karen loved teaching children. She was an elementary teacher at the Christian school at Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church for many years. After the Christian school closed, Karen home-schooled her youngest son, Samuel, and her two oldest grandchildren, Austin and Nichole, through high school.
Karen was then the teacher of the Good News Club at Chamisa Elementary in White Rock, where the children learned scripture verses, sang songs, played games, and had refreshments on Thursdays after school. Karen also helped with the Good News Club that met at Pojoaque Elementary after school on Tuesdays.
Karen loved home decorating, displaying paintings and pictures, collecting antiques, and arts and crafts projects. She loved reading classic Christian literature. She loved cooking and collecting recipes. She loved landscaping, planting flowers, shrubs, and trees. She loved and prayed for her family. She loved most of all the Lord Jesus her Savior and Redeemer.
Karen is survived by her husband, Randy; Son, Josh; Wife, Nancy; Grandchildren: Josie, Ed, Dorothy, John (Atlanta) Son, Daniel; Wife, Lili; Grandchildren: Austin, Nichole, Luis, Fabian (Albuquerque) Son, Samuel; Wife, Jillian; Grandchildren: Ella, Jimmy (Las Cruces) Sister, Dana Howze (Conroe, TX) and Sister, Tobin Howze Barr (Arlington, TX).
A grave-side funeral service will be held at Guaje Pines cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 17. There will be a reception afterwards in the fellowship hall at Bryce Avenue Presbyterian Church.
