Obituary: JJ Maier Oct. 13, 2023

JJ PAUL MAIER Oct. 13, 2023

JJ Maier (Jeffie Joy Paul Maier) of Los Alamos died at home October 13, 2023, after a long and difficult journey following a vehicular accident in 2005. JJ was born to parents Betty Joy Sharp Paul and Elza Paul in Albuquerque, NM in 1946. She would have been 77 this month.

JJ graduated from Los Alamos High School and attended UNM prior to moving to Las Cruces with her family. She worked with Jim Patton and Design Interiors of Las Cruces and in Northern NM on projects including the Taos Courthouse and the Downs Racetrack.  She lived and worked briefly in Salt Lake City, Utah and then transferred to California’s Bay Area where she worked as an interiors and furnishings purchasing agent for Stanford University.

Gerry Maier was District Planning Chief – Senior Parks & Recreation Specialist for the State of California on Angel Island when he and JJ met and married, then transferred to Sacramento, CA., where they lived until he passed in 1997 after a battle with cancer. JJ returned to Los Alamos not long after his death.

JJ had no children, but is survived by her sisters Betty Louise Paul and Maryanne Paul Zadfar and brother Eric Walker Paul.  Elder brothers Elza ‘Skeeter’ Paul and Will Ed Harris Paul are both deceased. JJ has several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends residing in New Mexico, California and across the country. She is loved and will be missed, but is out of pain, for which we are grateful.
