JANICE NOREEN MILLER Aug. 21, 1939 – Aug. 4, 2014
Janice Noreen Miller died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, in Ft. Collins, Colo. Janice died while in hospice care for metastatic breast cancer at the home of her daughter, Mara Miller. Janice donated her body to the University of Colorado in Denver for medical research.
Janice was born at home in Norman, Oklahoma, to Roy Virgil and Eva Geraldine Miller on August 21, 1939. Janice was the sixth child of seven. She is survived by her two older sisters Donna Mears of Friona, Texas and Linda Tims of Sunray, Texas, along with sisters-in-law, Glenda Miller of Denton, Texas, and Nelda Talley of Lubbock, Texas. Janice had one daughter, Mara Lynne of Ft. Collins, Colo.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Virgil Miller, Sr. and Eva Geraldine Miller. Siblings that preceded Janice in death are Roy Miller, Mary Lou Glass, Ross Miller, and John David Miller.
The Miller family moved to Friona, Texas, after World War II. Janice graduated as valedictorian of her class from Friona High School in 1957. She attended Wayland Baptist University for three years and then transferred to Colorado State University (CSU) where she lived with her brother Roy and his family.
After Jan graduated from CSU in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas for her master’s degree. She taught at Wayland Baptist University before moving to Los Alamos, New Mexico, in 1964 to work at Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory as a computer programmer. She was married to Roy Norris until they divorced in 1974. They built a home in Pajarito Acres where Janice resided until her death. Janice worked at the Laboratory until she retired in 1993.
A celebration for her friends in Los Alamos will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 2, 2014, at 118 Piedra Loop. Friends may bring a favorite story or photo to share.
