GLORIA S. STARNER (Lazarus) July 6, 1942 – Feb. 17, 2023

Gloria S. Starner (Lazarus), long time Los Alamos resident, passed away early Friday morning, February 17, 2023, at Aspen Ridge Lodge in Los Alamos, NM.

Gloria was born July 6, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY to Jack & Fay Schuster. She graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.A. in Elementary Education and worked for a couple years as an Elementary School teacher in New York and Idaho.

Gloria and her former husband, Michael Lazarus then moved to Los Alamos in 1968 where they raised two children, Laurie and Mark. Gloria continued her schooling in mathematics and computer science and worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1978 to 1991 as a computer programmer for the Solar Energy and Mechanical Engineering Groups. After leaving LANL, she spent many years volunteering for various organizations.

Gloria remarried in 1998 to Bill Starner where they enjoyed traveling and taking cruises.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents Fay & Jack Schuster, son Mark Lazarus, former husband Mike Lazarus, and husband Bill Starner.

Gloria is survived by daughter, Laurie Overmier and husband Russ of Los Alamos, sister Barbara Salzman of Nevada, niece and nephew, Ingrid and Lee.

Grave site services will be carried out by Rabbi, Jack Shlachter of the Los Alamos Jewish Center and held at Guaje Pines Cemetery Monday, February 20, 2023, at 1:00 in the afternoon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the MS Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
