GEORGE H. KOLB Aug. 10, 1919 – Oct. 30, 2017
On October 30, 2017 George H. Kolb passed away peacefully in the care of Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona with family at his side.
George was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 10, 1919. After technical high school, he became a welder by trade. In 1942, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific assigned to the Seabees.
In August 1945, he was on 30 day leave to his home in Chicago when the Atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. George was honorably discharged from the Navy at Great Lakes Navel station in Chicago, December 19th of that year.
He was married in September of 1947, in Chicago to his wife Audrey for 42 happy years. Upon her death in 1989, George moved to Los Alamos to be with his son Mike and his wife Linda. He was active in the local model airplane club for several years, enjoyed his part time job at the Pajarito Café, and was able to make many cross country road trips before moving to Sun City, Arizona.
George was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. George is survived by his son Mike and wife Linda along with their children Brian and Michelle and her husband Dan and their two children Jayde and Lane. His sister Mary and her two daughters Rhoda and Janet.
