GEORGE E. STEPHENS July 31, 2013
George E. Stephens Jr. died July 31, 2013 at 89 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50-plus years, Faith (Fridlington); sisters Dorothy, Fonda, Hazel, Maxine and Vera; and brother John.
He is survived by his children Janice and George; grandchildren Casey and Jessie, Jonathan, and Shanna; sisters Joanne (husband Clyde) Jones, and Betty (husband Bob) Smith; sisters-in-law Phyllis Stephens, Shirley Biddle, and Norma Ripkey; and brother-in-law Fred (wife Michelle) Fridlington.
Born in Marion County, Iowa, he served his country in both the Army and the Navy before coming to Los Alamos, N.M. in 1946, where he worked for the USAEC Protective Force and the Los Alamos National Laboratory prior to retiring to a life of ease playing cards and shooting pool with his friends at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Aug. 12 at the United Church of Los Alamos. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to either the George Stephens Memorial at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, 1101 Bathtub Row, Los Alamos, NM 87544 or to the blindness research organization of your choice.
