Frederic (Fred) March, 83, a resident of New Mexico since 1991, died on September 4, 2020 after a long battle with vascular dementia.

Fred was born in Brooklyn, New York, a son of immigrants who fled anti-Semitism in Europe. Fred was a life-long student of Jewish history, archeology, and modern day Israel. He was also an author, a global traveler, and a humanist. He loved music and performance and used his rich, baritone voice to entertain family and friends.

Fred spent his 50-year career as an environmental engineer. He moved to Los Alamos beginning in 1991 to work for Los Alamos Technical Associates. He became active in the Los Alamos Jewish Center and was instrumental in organizing a series of lectures on the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Fred and his family moved to Albuquerque in 1996 to work at Sandia National Laboratories and retired from there in 2009. Over the years he contributed to environmental health and safety through his work in New Mexico and in numerous countries around the world.

His ideas, philosophy, and world view are expressed in his book, The Bible Through the Eyes of its Authors (2006). He also authored several professional books on environmental policy.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan; his daughter, Nadine Brown of Albuquerque; son, Michael March of Portland, OR; son, Andrew March of Fort Collins, CO; daughter, Kate Stern and husband Lawrence Stern of Modiin, Israel; and five grandchildren.
