ELIZABETH HIGGINS Oct. 2, 1936 – April 8, 2021

Elizabeth Ann Higgins went home to Jesus April 8, 2021, at the age of 84.

Elizabeth was born to Clarence and Grace Hamrick October 2, 1936, in Hilton, Oklahoma. As a child, Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her pets including her pet squirrel.

Elizabeth met her husband, Jim Higgins in 1953 at Hobbs High School. They got married September 10, 1956, and went on to have three children: Nancy, Claire and Blaine. Elizabeth and Jim attended college at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM.

After graduation, the couple moved to Los Alamos, NM where Elizabeth taught at Los Alamos High School for 11 years. In 1980 Jim, Elizabeth and their children moved to Carlsbad where Elizabeth worked for PCA for a year before continuing her teaching career with the Carlsbad School District. Elizabeth taught at the AWARE Program, then moved to the high school where she completed her teaching career of 25 plus years.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving wife and mother, Elizabeth also loved camping, fishing, sewing and watching her grandchildren in their activities. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her. 

Elizabeth joins her daughter, Claire, her parents, her brother and two sisters in Heaven. She is survived by her husband Jim Higgins, her daughter Nancy Phipps (Shane) and her son Blaine Higgins. Elizabeth is also survived by her grandchildren: Katie Bilberry, Megan Valdez (Antonio), and Ross Jacob Harmeson. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren: Jase Bilberry, Gage Bilberry, and Anastasia Valdez.
