ELAINE TERESA DOYLE STRATTON March 23, 1929 – March 5, 2013
Elaine Teresa Doyle Stratton, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the family home in Los Alamos from complications of leukemia.
She was born March 23, 1929, to Colonel Hugh and Gertrude Mayr Doyle in Fort Totten, NY. Her father was later transferred to Fort Hamilton, New York, and she called Brooklyn home until, at the age of 20.
She came to Los Alamos from Oswego State Teachers College (NY) to teach primary grades in the Los Alamos Public Schools. She later earned a Masters in Education from New York University.
She met her husband, Thomas, in Los Alamos; they married in Oxford, England in 1958. Elaine cultivated a lifelong interest in education, her church and current events. She was a wonderful friend and will be greatly missed.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Robert Chambers; daughter, Jean; brother, James Doyle; and nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service, A Nurse in the Family, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, for her care.
A rosary was recited Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with a memorial mass conducted by Father John Carney. .
Burial followed at the Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.
The family of Elaine Teresa Doyle Stratton entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.
