Dorothy was born Dec 4, 1936, in Gurdon, Arkansas to Ernest and Ruby Dell Eastridge. As a child she loved playing with her many cousins, picking violets, and watching the fireflies.
She was a cheerleader for the Gurdon Go Devils and especially enjoyed English and vocabulary in school.
In 1952 fate smiled down and she met Jimmy Elliott from Santa Fe. Jimmy was serving in the Air Force alongside Dorothy’s brother Larry. During a leave he went to Arkansas to help Larry move his family. They fell in love and married in 1953 at the Cathedral in Santa Fe, a beautiful story of love and strength. Jimmy left the Air Force and began working at Los Alamos National Laboratory. They lived in Santa Fe until 1958 when they moved to Los Alamos where they raised their family and made many lifelong friends.
Jimmy retired in 1989 so they were able to spend time with their children, grandchildren, enjoy their many hobbies, and travel to Spain, Ireland, Scotland and Paris while their son James worked overseas.
In 1998 they moved to Albuquerque and put special touches to their new home to make it a warm and happy place.
Dorothy loved flowers, gardening, beadwork, home decoration, beautiful paintings, Native American pottery and jewelry. She found a passion for weaving at Tierra Wools in Los Ojos with Keith and Alyce and left behind some beautiful rugs.
She had an appreciation for so many things in life. She loved animals and enjoyed many pets over the years including dogs, cats, ducks and turtles, among other creatures Jimmy and Keith brought home. She was a wonderful Mother and friend to her children, always offering support, guidance and unconditional love.
Dorothy had the prettiest blue-green eyes and a warm beautiful smile and cared deeply for the people around her. She made an impact on many lives. She had grace and compassion for all of life.
Dorothy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2017, which she fought with determination and courage. Her family stood by her side and supported her until her last day. She will be missed deeply and forever be in our hearts.
A funeral mass will be held at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Albuquerque, on Monday July 17, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. with a celebration of life reception immediately following.
She will be buried in the Santa Fe National Cemetery during a private graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation here, or any animal rescue.
