DENNIS E. SMITH Feb. 23, 1942 – Nov. 23, 2017

Dennis E. Smith, 75, died Thursday, November 23, 2017, in Albuquerque, NM.

He was born February 23, 1942, in Washington, DC, to Ernest and Violet Smith. He grew up in Minneapolis, MN, and Los Alamos, NM.

After graduating from Los Alamos High School in 1960, he attended the University of Denver and later the University of New Mexico. He served in the U.S. Navy, where he trained to become an Electronics Technician. He worked for a short time at Los Alamos National Laboratory and later as a manager for many years with Mountain Bell (later known as US West Communications/Qwest Corporation).

He is survived by his two sisters: Barbara (Paul) Aamodt, Geri (Blaine) Barker; two daughters: Gretchen Smith, Jenny (Smith) Martinez; Granddaughter: Kylie Martinez; Great Granddaughter: Kensley Martinez-Castillo; Grandson: Cailin Martinez; one nephew and three nieces.

Throughout his life, Dennis was a kind-hearted, hard working, caring, and dedicated man, the type of man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone who was in need. He was known for running track in high school, volunteering and crewing for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for several years, keeping in contact with high school acquaintances, and being the coordinator for the Los Alamos High School Alumni Association, for which he created and maintained an extensive database for all the LAHS graduates for the years of 1944-1974.

Your life was a blessing. Your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
