DANIEL GENE STEELE Feb. 5, 1946 – May 11, 2023

Daniel Gene Steele died peacefully in his home in San Marcos, Texas, on May 11, 2023. Dan was born in San Diego, California on February 5, 1946 to Lillian Dixie Steele and Ernie Richard Steele. Dan was an active and mischievous kid, who enjoyed adventures with his two brothers. In high school, Dan became more studious, and his good looks, intelligence, and kindness caught the attention of his future wife, Lynne.

Dan and Lynne became high school sweethearts at Mt. Helix High, and were married on January 28, 1967 in San Diego, while Dan attended college at San Diego State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Dan went on to earn a Ph.D in Psychology at Baylor University. Dan and Lynne moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where he took a job as a psychologist for the Los Alamos School District. Several years later, Dan started his private practice as a clinical psychologist. He helped many families, teens, and couples in his practice, and will be remembered by many patients for his knowledge, patience, guidance and generous nature.

Dan is survived by his son Scott and his wife Jordan, his daughter Amy and her husband Taylor, his son Justin and his wife Mariana, his wife Lynne, his three grandchildren, Laurel, Nova, and Oliver, his brother Kenneth and his wife Peggy, his brother Stephen and his wife Joyce, and many lifelong friends and family, including Donny and Monica Wiles, Mike and Donna Wiles, Joe and Carolyn Kindel, Judy Powers Wilson, and Janice Christofferson.

He was a devoted and gentle father and loving and active grandfather. Dan and Lynne were a loving couple for 56 years, and were the model of a successful marriage for many friends and family members. While living in Los Alamos and raising his kids, Dan enjoyed being a soccer referee on the weekends, cheering at his kid’s sports games, and taking family road trips to national parks.

Dan’s family will have a private service. Anyone wishing to contribute in his honor is asked to please donate to the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition at: www.multiplesystematrophy.org.

“The greatest tribute to the dead is not grief but gratitude.” Dan, Dad, Grandad, Dr. Steele, we are so grateful to have known and loved you.
