CINDY JO (TECH) WEGNER May 15, 1962 – Jan. 29, 2016
Cindy Jo (Tech) Wegner of Copperas Cove, Texas passed away on January 29, 2016 at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service and inurnment will be held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Columbarium in Los Alamos, New Mexico the end of May.
Cindy was born in Vermillion, South Dakota May 15, 1962. She was confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in 1976 and attended elementary and high school in Los Alamos, New Mexico graduating in 1980. She then went on to New Mexico State University to further her education.
Cindy was an avid and accomplished skier and excelled in horsemanship. She participated in many gymkhanas, horse shows, and rodeos. Her specialty was barrel racing with her horse, Sonny, successfully competing at rodeos locally and in surrounding areas. She was crowned Los Alamos County Fair Queen in 1979 and then went on to compete for New Mexico State Fair Queen.
During high school Cindy worked for the Grothes Family at the Shalako Shop, a job she really enjoyed. Her favorite customers were Lab (LANL) visitors from all over the country and all over the world who purchased lots of Navajo jewelry for family and friends.
Cindy loved wood working and had natural talent for working on projects with mechanical and electrical aspects. This led to a career of working at various Auto Parts stores while moving from station to station following her husband’s military assignments in Germany, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, and Texas. Cindy also worked for years as a teller at Fort Hood National Bank on the Fort Hood Army Base. During these years of being an army wife her focus and great joy was raising and caring for Linda, their only child, often for extended periods of times solely by herself when her husband was on deployment. Being a mom to Linda was a very special part of Cindy’s life.
Cindy is survived by her daughter, Linda Sue Wegner who is currently attending college in Detroit, Michigan; her mom, Norma Tech of Los Alamos, New Mexico; her dad, Earl Tech of Burke, South Dakota; her three sisters, Carol and husband Ken Litherland of Rociada, New Mexico, Julia Tech of Las Vegas, New Mexico, and Sophia and husband Randall O’Leary of Clearwater, Florida; three nieces, Christina and Nicky Litherland, Katyanna Tech and one nephew Ricky O’Leary. Cindy will always have a place in our hearts.
