BARRY WAYNE BURTON Sept. 1, 1947 – Nov. 1, 2025

Barry Wayne Burton, age 78, of Phenix City, Alabama, formerly of Los Alamos, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Piedmont Columbus Midtown in Columbus, Georgia.

A private Service of Remembrance, with full U.S. Marine Corps honors, will be held at a later date, according to Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City.

Born September 1, 1947, in Compton, California, Barry was the beloved son of Dora Louise Cage Burton and the late Raymond Burton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that shaped his enduring sense of duty and patriotism.

Following his military service, Barry embarked on a distinguished career at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Technical Writer and Editor. After leaving the laboratory, he and his wife Carolyn moved to Sierra Vista, AZ for a short time. Later they moved back to New Mexico living in Santa Fe, the home they loved. Then relocated to Phenix City to be closer to family.

In retirement, Barry embraced the simple pleasures of life. He became the devoted sous chef to his wife, a role he cherished. Though he made Alabama his home, his heart remained loyal to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Denver Broncos. He was an avid reader, especially drawn to history and science fiction, and he never missed an opportunity to share a good book or a thoughtful conversation.

Barry will be remembered as a proud Marine, a loving husband, a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and a true friend to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the laughter, stories, and memories shared by those who loved him. Thank you, Barry, for the warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love you gave so generously.

He is survived by his mother, Dora Louise Burton; Carrie Sais Burton,  his wife of 40 years, of Phenix City, AL; his children: Adam Joseph Burton, Sr. (Erica) of Phenix City, AL,  Larry Burton (Anjanette) of Waxahachie, TX, and Carrie Morrison (Daniel) of Los Alamos, NM; his twin brother, Gary Burton; five grandsons: Adam Joseph Burton, Jr. (Morgan), Peyton Wayne Burton (Kris), Quinton Burton, Braydon Burton, and Taylor Morrison (Rachel); and five great-grandchildren: Tres, Parker, Bristol, Dani, and Zannah. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family.
