BARBARA STEBBINS CROLEY Aug. 11, 2015

Barbara Stebbins Croley, 87, died on August 11, 2015. Barbara had lived in Los Alamos since 1957 when her husband Dale C. Croley began working at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.

Over the years, in addition to raising three daughters, Barbara was an avid gardener, artist, gourmet cook, and enjoyed taking care of small animals and wild birds. Barbara was active in the Los Alamos Lion’s Club and in the sight conservation programs of Lions International for 50 years, as well as being a substitute teacher, a member of the Los Alamos Geological Society, a 10-year employee of the Los Alamos Tourist Information Center in White Rock, and involved with Girl Scouts of America at many levels.

When Dale died in 1981, Barbara was instrumental in organizing and managing the Lion’s HELP group, which still provides rides to medical appointments in Los Alamos, Santa Fe and Albuquerque for Los Alamos residents. Barbara was also the local Volunteer Coordinator for “News Line for the Blind” for 30+ years.

Barbara is survived by her daughters: Margaret Odell, Susan Green, and Carol LaRotonda, as well as two sons-in-law, Andrew Green and David LaRotonda. She also has three grandchildren: Sarah Olson, Daniel Green, and Rebecca McKinney, and four great grandchildren: Nola, Eden, Penny and Sophie.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, October 17, 11 am at Trinity-on-the-Hill Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Lions Clubs International or the National Audubon Society.
