Nurses With Heart: Parkinson’s And Movement Disorders Action Group Meets At BESC Wednesday

Nurses With Heart News:

The new Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Action Group will meet 2-3:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

The 28-member group welcomes the community to attend this meeting to learn about resources and more.

The new group was established this past summer and coordinated by Nurses With Heart CEO Carolyn Moore.

“The newly formed Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Action Group got off to an enthusiastic start,” Moore said. “Attendees asked questions and shared experiences. We welcome anyone who has Parkinson’s or a movement disorder, or who is a caregiver, or who just wants to know more to come sit with us to listen or contribute.”

The month, the group will host its first guest speaker, Jordan Sykes of Abbott/St. Jude Medical. Abbott will discuss a new product for Deep Brain Stimulation, the newest four lead technology. The Deep Brain Stimulation, is a surgical procedure, where leads are implanted in the brain to reduce the effects of tremor and dyskinesia. The research is finding that this surgery, often results in a reduction in the number of Parkinson’s medications a person needs to take each day.

Moore said that she believes, “We are all in this together,” and welcomes community members to join the group anytime.
