Due to inclement weather, County Manager Anne Laurent has ordered the closure of all non-essential County government facilities and services today, March 15. This includes the Aquatic Center, libraries, Golf Pro Shop, Eco Transfer Station and Fuller Lodge.
While the Nature Center, Fuller Lodge Art Center and visitor centers are closed, the Los Alamos History Museum is open.
County staff recommends that individuals call any facility not listed to determine if they will be open or closed today.
Atomic City Transit fixed routes will make their last trips departing the Transit Center at 9:35 a.m. Service ends after routes complete their outbound trips. Dial-a-Ride will operate as available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 505.661.7433 to make a reservation. ACT Assist paratransit service will end at 6 p.m. today.
Environmental Services will maintain their schedule for residential and commercial trash collection throughout the day.
Because of the hazardous conditions, the Los Alamos Police Department strongly recommends that all residents and visitors refrain from unnecessary travel. This precaution ensures personal safety and supports emergency and road maintenance teams in efficiently executing the FY24 Snow and Ice Control Plan.
By choosing not to drive and parking vehicles off the streets, the community plays a crucial role in enhancing the effectiveness of snow removal efforts.
Safety Measures and Recommendations:
- Residents and visitors are urged to delay any non-critical travel until the weather conditions have improved.
- Should travel be unavoidable, individuals are encouraged to verify the latest road conditions. Visit the County’s MyDrive site to view the conditions of major roadways within Los Alamos County. Users should select the intersection image to activate the live feed on Rumble.
- It is important to maintain a safe distance behind snow plows and road maintenance vehicles to ensure the safety of all parties.
- Slow down and be cautious of hazardous conditions.
