COUNTY News:
The Planning and Zoning Commission will not meet this week because there are no cases to hear at the present time.
The P&Z Commission meets generally on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers in the County’s Municipal Building, , 1000 Central Ave. Its purpose is to consider long-range planning and land development issues for the County and to act as the Zoning Commission.

The P&Z Commission holds public hearings and has the authority to approve, conditionally approve or disapprove the following applications per the Development Code:
- Site plans.
- Special use permits.
- Subdivisions.
The P&Z Commission holds public hearings and forwards its recommendations to the County Council for:
- Adoption of and text amendments to the Development Code.
- Adoption of and amendments to the official zoning map.
- Adoption of and amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.
- Applications for additions, deletions, or changes in category to the uses allowed in any district as set forth in the Development Code Use Index.
- Biennial review of the text of the Development Code, the official zoning map, and the Comprehensive Plan to determine whether each is correct and that no conflicts exist.
- Needs of the county as a political entity and, where applicable, as part of northern New Mexico and as part of the State.
The P&Z Commission may act as a Regulatory Commission. Its decisions may be appealed to the County Council.
