NMSP Officers Save Woman From Jumping Off Bridge

NMSP News:

VALENCIA COUNTY – At approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday, New Mexico State Police (NMSP) officers responded to the scene of a woman sitting on the ledge of a ramp overpass on Interstate 25 near Belen.

Officers arrived to find the woman in obvious mental distress sitting on the ledge of the overpass flyover that crossed Interstate 25. As officers attempted to speak with her and coax her off the ledge of the overpass, she prepared to jump.

New Mexico State Police Ofc. Sergio Corral saw her positioning herself to jump off the ledge and he was able to quickly pull the woman to safety before she could jump.

“The swift actions of Ofc. Corral and the other officers on scene surely saved this woman’s life,” NMSP Chief Tim Johnson. “Despite everything else going on in our state, my officers are still out there responding to calls for service from our citizens and saving lives.”

After pulling the woman to safety she was comforted by officers and taken to a waiting ambulance for evaluation.

Interstate 25 was shut down for a short period of time while the incident unfolded with the assistance of the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office.
