NMSP Officer Makes 100th DWI Arrest This Year

New Mexico State Police Ofc. Toby LaFave reached a milestone Sept. 8 very few can say, he made his 100th DWI arrest of the year.

For those who know and work with Ofc. LaFave this appeared to be business as usual, given his previous accolades and work ethic. He has been with the New Mexico State Police for six years, with eight years’ experience prior, and in that relatively short time frame has amassed numerous awards and recognitions.

He was the NMSP “Officer of the Year” in 2012, along with District 5 (Albuquerque) Officer of the Year simultaneously.

Ofc. LaFave was awarded the Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) Officer of the Year in 2013, and 2014, and followed that up with the “Valencia County DWI Program – Walking the Line to End DWI award in 2015 and 2016.

 

This year, 2017, MADD awarded its MADD DWI Enforcement Unit to the NMSP Albuquerque DWI Unit of which Ofc. Lafave has been a member of for the last year and a half.

 

New Mexico State Police Chief Kassetas said, “The dedication of Ofc. LaFave should be applauded by the citizens of New Mexico for his unwavering commitment to keeping the roads safe from drunk drivers.”
